International Women’s Day in Russian is Международный Женский День [meezh-doo-na-ROD-niy ZHYENS-keey DYEN’].
Over recent years, International Women’s Day has lost its political meaning and became a day when men express their love and appreciation to the women around them. March 8th is a very special holiday for every woman in Russia. It’s a tradition to pamper women on this day.
On March 8th women receive flowers and possibly small gifts from their husbands, children, boyfriends, fathers, brothers, peers in school and male co-workers. You will notice a lot of women walking around with flowers on this day. Some offices even organize small parties to celebrate March 8th, or go out for lunch or dinner.

If you would like to wish happy March 8th to a woman, here is what you will need to say:

You probably already know that you will use “тебя” [tee-BYA] when speaking to someone you know very well or someone you would usually address in “ты”, and you would use “вас” [vas] with someone you can address in “вы”.
