Today is a rough day, another first of many… Today my dad would be celebrating his 52nd birthday with us. Instead, just shy of 5 months since his unexpected death, we will be “celebrating” without him. Our family has planned to spend some time together today, remembering my dad, having dinner at his favorite restaurant and then dessert at his favorite Dairy Queen, for root beer floats, “so thick you can hardly get a straw in it”. We'll likely watch the video my mom made with photos of him from birth until death, laughing at his silliness and crying at our loss.
It's amazing how fast these past 5 months have gone, yet how unreal it still seems at times. And even though it's been 5 months, the sadness is still as unbearable at times as it was that very first day. These next few months will be very rough, as we will be experiencing our first holidays without him, without his famous sweet potatoes, without his laughs and big bear hugs. It won't be the same…
