Congratulations!
Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby! Parenthood is one of the most joyous and satisfying experiences of life. We consider it a privilege to share in the care of your baby and marvel with you at the growth and development of your child.
In the Hospital
We examine your baby daily while you are in the hospital. If your baby has any problem, we will discuss them with you in detail. One of our pediatricians will be in your hospital room every morning and will be happy to answer any questions you have.
The doctor who discharges you from the hospital will advise you regarding your baby’s first office visit.
Being a Good Parent
This website contains no secret to being a good parent. We are convinced there is no single best approach to parenting. Your baby is an individual from the day he is born. Since no two children are alike, your effectiveness as a parent depends considerably on your insight and ability to respond appropriately to the unique, individual needs of your child. Thus, this website contains general principles and instructions which you may adapt to your baby.
Our Goal
As your baby’s pediatrician, it is our goal to protect the baby’s health by assisting you in recognizing his needs. Our aim is to recognize problems early, and to prevent them by regular well child checkups, during which all aspects of health, growth, and development will be evaluated.
For your convenience, patients are seen by appointment only. Under the General Information section of this Medical Advice page, you will find our recommended well child check-up and immunization schedule.
Newborns
Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby! Parenthood is one of the most joyous and satisfying experience of life and we are honored that you have entrusted us to help you with the care of your child.
When the physician is discharging your baby from the hospital, he/she will tell you when to bring your baby into the office. Typically, this is between 24-48 hours after your discharge. At that time, we will weigh your baby and the provider will perform a brief exam. Come prepared with any questions that you may have and be sure to bring the discharge paperwork that was given to you by the hospital.
After your first newborn well visit, the provider will ask you to return at the following ages to monitor the growth and development of your child:

Health Insurance
Check our insurance information page to see that Denise Wolken MD is a participating provider or call our office if you have questions about your insurance plan. Please remember to bring your insurance card to your first visit.
Upon Arrival of the New Baby
If your plan is to deliver at Crouse Hospital, simply tell your obstetrician and the hospital staff that you have chosen Denise Wolken MD Pediatrics as your child's pediatrician. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff and we will come to the hospital and see your baby in the newborn nursery. If your baby is born at St. Joseph's Hospital or one of the other surrounding hospitals, the hospitalist pediatrician/neonatologist will care for your child in the newborn nursery of the hospital of your choice. Upon discharge, please contact our office and schedule your baby's first visit to our office. We ask that you schedule a newborn visit with our office 2-3 days after discharge from the hospital.
Important note for parents: It is your responsibility to add your newborn to your health insurance policy once your baby is born. Most insurance plans have a 30 day grace period for newborns to be added. Once the grace period has expired, if the baby has not been added within the appropriate time, the parent will be responsible for charges incurred.

When your baby is born at Yale, simply tell your obstetrician and the hospital staff that you have chosen a Child and Adolescent Healthcare physician as your child's pediatrician. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff. One of our physicians is available to see your baby every day that they are in the hospital until they are discharged. Prior to your baby going home, we will talk with you about scheduling your baby's first visit to our office.
If your baby is born at another hospital, the local pediatrician can call our office to update us on your baby's arrival and we will be happy to assume care of your baby once he or she has been discharged from their care.
