Dear Emaline,
I can still call you baby girl, can't I? You're three years old now. THREE! We go back and forth between you being a big girl and you being a baby.
You are stubborn to the core. If you don't want to do something; you're absolutely not doing it. Your daddy and I keep telling each other that this trait will be good for you later in life, but right now, it's a little rough. Sometimes we just have to laugh at your stubborn nature, and pray that you'll decide you're ready to use the potty all the time and just do it. Or maybe you'll realize that you do, indeed, love naps.
I love your bravery. You are fearless about so many things. Swim lessons. Exploring new places. Jumping off anything that could be remotely dangerous. Just today, at the chiropractor, you were standing on the swivel stool, grinning and swaying. You almost gave Dr. Melissa a heart attack.
You always want to be in dresses, but hate tights. And the dress or skirt must be a twirly one, or else, forget it. I'm so ready for spring so you can wear dresses without tights or leggings under them. You love to dance and twirl. You love your reflection, and watching yourself twirl or sing or pose. You also still love to twirl your hair–a trait that I know you got from your mama but we cannot seem to break.
Your hair is curly and wild, just like your spirit.
Your vocabulary kills me. You say things like “we MUST do this” and “well, this is interesting because…” Your sassy personality challenges me everyday, but I'm learning to embrace it.
You can be so sneaky, but it's incredibly entertaining. A couple of weeks ago we found you eating a pb&j after we put you to bed…you stashed it away in your room. I could not stop laughing. Some days, like today, when you refuse to nap, you are so sneaky about getting out of bed and playing. You can be quiet as a mouse when you try to be.
Even though I talk about how sassy and stubborn you are, you really are a sweetheart when you want to be. If Eli is upset about something, you try to make it better. You sneak him the snacks that he's not allowed to have because he didn't finish his dinner or you search for his lost apple juice when he can't find it. You give the best hugs and kisses, and are always complimenting me.
You love taking tubbys, especailly in Noni's big tub. Whenever she watches you so I can go to an appointment or has you for a sleep over, you always talk her into giving you a tubby.
You're still a little bookworm. You always want us to read books to you and if you could have every single one of your books in your bed with you, you'd be the happiest girl in the world. You actually woke up the other night looking for your “storybook” and had a very long conversation with your daddy at 3:00 am about where your book went and what book it was that you couldn't find.
Your princess doll collection is ridiculous, but you play with each and everyone. You always want me to sing you princess songs before bed, after your daddy has already tucked you in and sang you your hymns. You still sleep with your cozies, and are insistent that they will not be for your baby sister when she is born {don't worry, I got her new ones.}
You adore your daddy and your big brother. You love going to “school” and ballet class. And I actually feel incredibly guilty that I don't have you in anything at the moment. You always ask when you're going to school or if you have ballet again soon. But you're killing it at swim lessons. You swam underwater last week. UNDER WATER! I couldn't believer it.
You still drink milk all the time, and would drink only milk if we didn't make you drink water in between. You need to drink it out of a particular cup, just like Eli and his juice cup. You always ask for tiny m&ms with your yogurt and circle cheese is your favorite snack. You love all the princess movies, although Frozen and Tangled are probably still your favorites. Even though you are the girliest girlie girl, you play Power Rangers with Eli–if you can be the pink ranger of course. And you love playing superheroes with him, too.
You are quite the little artist. You fill up blank pages with drawings that actually resemble people. You would be happy to have your markers and paper for hours, and stickers of course. You still have an obsession with Play Doh, despite my efforts to sway your opinions of it.
You always want to help cook, pulling up a chair and asking so sweetly “can I help you?”
You bring a smile to my face every single day and you are teaching me so much about being a mother {and about patience.}
I thank God every single night for making me your mama {usually after you are asleep} and for making you the sweet, sassy, brave, wild, beautiful, free spirited, big hearted, stubborn threenager that you are.
