Properly celebrating the important father figure in our lives (biological or otherwise) involves making him feel appreciated and loved on Father's Day. It's a tradition that goes back as early as 1508. In the USA, President Lyndon Johnson first declared an official Father’s Day in 1966. Since then, more and more people spend time treating their pops or sending him cards. All well and good but knowing what to actually write in a Father's Day card? It can be tough! If you're looking for Father's Day messages that you can copy or simply use as inspiration, then you're in the the right place!

Where and when is Father's Day?
Father’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, but it is not always on the same day. In fact, the date varies between countries, although it is usually in March, May and June. In contrast, in Thailand, they celebrate it on the king’s birthday, 5th December, and in Brazil, they honour their dads on the second Sunday in August. Whereas in many European countries Father’s Day is celebrated on 19th March, the feast day for St. Joseph. Jesus’ dad and the patron saint of all fathers. However, many countries, including Canada, the UK and the USA celebrate dads on the third Sunday in June.
Here's a breakdown of the dates for Father's Day in the next three years, 2022, 2022, 2023, for the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia.

5 Ways to Treat Dad this Father’s Day
As well as sentimental Father’s Day messages, there are so many ways that you can surprise and delight your dad or stepdad on his special day. Some of our favourite ways to treat him include:
Make him a card
Let your dad know your care with a special, homemade card! Express your creativity and let your imagination run wild. If you prefer not to rely on your artistic abilities (or lack thereof) you could always order a card that features a photograph of you and him. Skip below to our quotes to discover what to write in Father's Day cards.
Cook a family meal
Most dads or dad-figures just want to spend father’s day with their kids! Sitting down for a family meal provides the perfect opportunity for everyone to get together and have a good time. And if you cook it, it'll be especially appreciated!
Do something fun together
This is perhaps what all dads want the most. Whether it is just watching TV, going out and about or playing a game, let your father choose an activity for the entire family. For example, in South Africa, it is common for families to all go fishing together!
Get in touch
Unfortunately, we are not all lucky enough to spend father’s day with our dads. If this is the case, organise a video call or just give him a ring on the telephone.
What to Write in Father’s Day Cards? 5 Quotes to Get You Started!

Whether your baba would prefer one that is heartfelt, hilarious or sentimental, there is a range of Father’s Day messages to choose from here. Some of our favourites include:
#1 World’s greatest dad
If you think your dad is the best on the planet, you could write:
To the best dad in the universe, I must be the luckiest kid in the world. I am so proud that you're my dad! Thank you for always being there for me and for teaching me all the things I didn't know I needed to know. Love you always.
#2 Dad joke
To the best Dad in the world, sorry for all the grey hairs I have given you over the years. I hope that by the time my hair turns grey, I'll be half as funny as you think you are! With love from your favourite child.
#3 Thankful
If you would like to send a message of love and gratitude, you could try a thankful message like this one:
Thank you for teaching me how to ride a bike, throw a ball, and fix things. Thanks for being my taxi whenever I needed a ride. Thanks for making me smile when I felt down. Thank you for doing everything that you do! You taught me everything I needed to know. Love you!
#4 Happy Granddad day!
Often, we use this special day to send Father’s Day messages to our granddads! Try this one:
Dear Granddad, Thank you for always being there. I hope you know I treasure all of our memories together! I am so blessed to have a granddad like you! Sending love.
#5 First Father’s Day
The first Father’s Day is always one to remember. If you are writing a card to a new dad, you could try:
I hope you are getting enough sleep as you discover the many joys (& occasional lows!) of fatherhood. This special holiday is the first of many to come. Your little bundle is blessed to have a daddy like you! Happy First Father’s Day!
When to send your Father’s Day card
When you send your father’s day card will depend on where you live, with postal times often varying in different countries. For example,
The USA
In the USA, posting usually takes around 8 working days if you are not posting first class. Father’s Day in the States is on the third Thursday in June. So next Father’s Day would be 20th June 2021. We would suggest you try to post your card before the 10th to ensure that it arrives on time.
The UK
In the UK post takes 2-3 working days for second class and 1-2 for first class. With it being Sunday, you will want to aim for your Dad to receive it on the Saturday at the latest.
Canada
In Canada, the post usually takes around 4 working days, but this can depend on where you are sending your card too. Try getting it posted the week before to ensure prompt delivery.
Australia
Also in Australia, the time to post your card usually depends on where your letter is coming from and where it is going. On average, it takes around 5-7 working days!
Top Tip: Running out of time to send your Father’s Day messages? At MyPostcard, we print cards in two regions in the USA, in the UK, Australia and Germany. As a result, we can often provide speedy delivery to the countries nearby.
